During the first two years of the SHARE project the consortium carried out many dissemination activities and the project is well known in the scientific community and the rescue organization domain. The first dissemination activity was the official kick-off meeting in Dortmund, Germany, where the whole consortium presented the ideas of the SHARE project to journalists from the local press. Press releases were published in the German news services. Directly after the kick-off meeting the official SHARE website was established www.ist-share.org. The website is hosted by Fraunhofer IAIS. The next important dissemination event was a presentation of the SHARE project at a workshop on Sicherheitskommunikation für mobile Hilfsorganisationen organized by the ALCATEL SEL Stiftung in Berlin by beginning of 2005. A paper was published in the workshop proceedings. The event that was most visible in the public up to know was the presentation of the project and demonstration of the first prototype at CeBIT 2006 in Hannover, Germany.
The project partners attended various scientific and domain-specific conferences. Scientific papers were published in conference proceedings and international scientific journals. A presentation of the project at the eChallenges conference in Barcelona in October 2006 was in important event for the consortium.
The next important event will be MobileResponse 2007- International Workshop on Mobile Information Technology for Emergency Response. This workshop is organized by the SHARE consortium together with the EU project wearIT@work. The workshop will take place in February 2007 at the Fraunhofer Campus in Sankt Augustin, Germany.
For beginning of next year it is also planned to present the SHARE system to other fire departments in Germany and to discuss applicability for real fire operations. The Fire Department of Dortmund will play an important role in this dissemination process.
Finally, the consortium is talking to various companies about marketability of a SHARE product and possible co-operations. Large interest from large companies and from public organizations was observed recently.
Mobile Response 2008
International Symposium on Mobile Information Technology for Emergency Response
May 29 - 30, 2008
Fraunhofer Campus
Sankt Augustin, Germany
Following the success of Mobile Response 2007, we’d like to announce the continuation of this event in 2008 and invite paper submissions to Mobile Response 2008, the International Symposium on Mobile Information Technology for Emergency Response.
The gap between the great potential benefit that usable mobile IT could yield in the domain of emergency response and the specific design challenges for such technologies in this particularly demanding domain was the foundation of our decision to create a new venue for researchers and practitioners from different disciplines. Mobile Response 2008 aims at a focussed exchange on how mobile information technology can be effectively used to the benefit of emergency response.
The symposium will present the latest approaches and technical solutions in the area of mobile information technology for emergency response planning and execution.
We invite participation from research, industry and public rescue organizations to enable an in-depth discussion of the opportunities and drawbacks of new digital technologies for emergency response.
Symposium Topics
- Mobile and wearable computing
- Context-aware applications
- Geographic information systems and location-based services
- Rescue operation management and decision support systems
- Multimedia and multimodal communication systems
- Requirements, design and empirical foundations
- System support for cross-organizational cooperation
- Critical infrastructure protection
- Strategies for involving the general public
- Information systems for environmental monitoring

Mobile Response Workshop 2007
International Workshop on Mobile Information Technology for Emergency Response
The international workshop MobileResponse 2007 will take place on February 22-23, 2007 at the Fraunhofer campus in Sankt Augustin. It is organized together with the EU project wearIT@work. We already received more then 30 contributions from the following countries: Austria, Australia, Brazil, Denmark, France, Germany, Greece, Italy, Japan, Korea, Russia, Spain, United Kingdom. Keynote speakers who are well known in the field of emergency response and management will be invited to give presentations at the workshop. Proceedings will be published with a great European Publisher if negotiations will be successful. The URL of the project website is: www.mobile-response.de.
CeBIT 2006
The SHARE system was demonstrated and presented to the public at CeBIT 2006 in Hannover, Germany. An immense interest in the SHARE project and the first prototype was observed. Many official representatives from public institutions, government and industry were visiting our booth.
The system was demonstrated at two separated locations in one exhibition hall. A fire fighting car and three client devices were located at the BMBF (German Ministry for Education and Research). Another two clients and a table with personal equipment of a fire fighter were shown at the Fraunhofer booth. With this set-up it was possible to demonstrate the distributed aspects of the SHARE system very well. The prototype was working over one week without problems with nine operating hours daily.
Many officials visited our booths to get an impression of SHARE. The minister of Defense of New Zealand and the Minister for Environmental Affairs of Australia were impressed to see the functionality that was already available after one year of the project. We also had the chance to demonstrate our system to the president of the Fraunhofer Gesellschaft, Professor Bullinger, with great success.
