Technical Project Focus

The SHARE project addresses the mobile multimodal communication requirements of rescue forces, including their need for on-line access to data necessary for decision making. The Push-To- Share service developed by SHARE combines advanced, innovative technologies to allow mobile workers to communicate naturally, and to SHARE structured multimodal information resources, including audio, video, text, graphic and location information. The Push-To- Share service is based on a new mobile Push-To-Share architecture and incorporates a robust, intuitive multimodal user interface, an interactive digital map, location-based services and intelligent information processing and indexing.

Communication and data flow in the command hierarchy with SHARE

Emergency forces, especially units in charge of rescue management, can derive significant advantage from the communication and multimodal information support offered by this new mobile service.

The architecture design of the system will be based on Push-to-Talk technology, making it possible to provide services supporting multimodal interaction and the exchange of multimedia messages. Push-to-Share is based on Siemens Push-to-Talk mobile technology, which offers members of a user group direct voice communication at the simple press of a button. Communication is managed using SIP, a standardized Voice-over-IP and multimedia signaling protocol. Push-to-Talk supports only audio communication and uses the AMR codec for compression. Push-to-Share extends this functionality to encompass the entire spectrum of media including images, video and text.
